Trip to Bulgaria: The Journal

We, Joana, Clara, Bruno and Tomás within the Erasmus project, embraced the new adventure that was going to Bulgaria, meeting up and making activities with students from four other countries: Croatia, Turkey, Italy and Spain.

 Day 1:

We were welcomed at the Ivan Vazov School by the headmistress, accompanied by two students dressed up with traditional folklore costumes, who brought us a typical sweet to try, Pitka.

Afterwards, each country participants presented their country, city and school and the Bulgarian students prepared a quiz about their culture for the rest of us to play. We got to meet our hosts and, later on, we explored the nature and the beautiful landscapes of the town, an old chapel and the house of the most famous Bulgarian writer, Ivan Vazov. We ended our first day having dinner in our host's houses.

Day 2:

We started the day at the school listening to a lecture about Online Security and then every group proceeded to present their project on the topic. The Turkish group prepared a quiz on this theme and premiered the three best contestants. Still working on this subject, we were requested to create posters related.

In the afternoon we went to see the city from a high perspective. We walked up to the top of the mountain and admired the view after we watched a documentary on the history of the place.

We had a two hour bus trip back to the hotel and went to our host's house for the last dinner with them.

Day 3:

On the third day, we visited the city of Vratsa. We started off by listening to a lecture about the dangers of the internet. Next, we walked around the city and had hot chocolate in the coffee shop nearby. We took a bus trip to the snowy Ledenika mountains in Vratsa, where we explored the insides of the beautiful caves we found there. Inside this cave there was a lake of wishes, where people dip their fingers in the water and make a wish. After leaving the caves and playing around in the snow we had lunch and headed back to the hotel. Then we had free time to ourselves in the hotel facilities.

Later that night we had the final dinner where each country presented their typical dance and traditional food. In our opinion, this was the best day.

Day 4:

The last day was spent in the capital, Sofia, where we did a Peddy-paper throughout the historical monuments of the city.

After lunch we visited the shopping center of Sofia, where we bought souvenirs for our loved ones. When we returned, we had the “goodbye dinner”, in the hotel, where we received the participation certificates and said our goodbyes to everyone.

This was a once in a lifetime trip that we are going to remember for the rest of our lives, where we made amazing friends around Europe, learned more about Internet Safety and experienced new foods, cultures and customs.
